1. Do you Strategize?
Yes
A. Do you have a decarbonization plan with milestones? If so, please share your roadmap/plan.
Not answeredB. Have you completed Sustainability School?
Not answered2. Do you Digitize?
Yes
A. Have you deployed centralized utility data management and monitoring software for energy and carbon analysis and reporting?
DTCC utilizes Schneider's Resource Advisor to monitor all of DTCC's Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions. Furthermore, DTCC utilizes Schneider Summit Services' Sustainability consulting services to help identify new opportunities for improvement.
B. Are you using metering of major energy loads to uncover opportunities to reduce energy and emissions?
DTCC utilizes Schneider's PM5000/8000, HDPM6000 meters along with Ecostruxure Buildings monitoring capabilities to track and interpret utilization, which aids in analytical operational/capital project decision.
C. Do you monitor energy efficiency and equipment performance and provide actionable insights?
Within Ecostruxure Buildings, our utilization data is categorized by significant energy use (such as lighting, HVAC, etc...). This information is tied to our ISO 50001/14001 management systems in order to identify opportunities for improvement.
D. Are you using power management and monitoring to monitor power quality and increase business resiliency and continuity?
We're actively collecting power quality information, however it's primarily used after the fact for incident root cause analysis. We are not currently modifying operations proactively as a result of power quality inputs.
E. Have you deployed innovations to maximize efficiency and digitalization of your operations?
We're currently reviewing opportunities to leverage Schneider's Power Expert software for our data centers along with SE/Aveva data analytics to improve our insights into DTCC's energy sources (ie electricity, water, cooling water, gas, etc....)
F. Have you implemented asset upgrades and modernization programs to optimize and increase the longevity of your plant equipment and so, avoid emissions?
DTCC has recently modernized portions of existing power distribution and UPS equipment. In doing so, we've improved the operational resiliency of our facilities for both concurrent maintainability and incident disruptions. Furthermore, we've leveraged re-use good working order equipment through Schneider's breaker retrofit program to avoid excessive landfill impact.
G. Have you embraced the digital integration of power and process as a way to minimize energy consumption while optimizing your process?
We are piloting a Micro-Grid at one of our facilities which includes on-site PV Solar power generation with the intent to expand to on-site battery storage. With proven success, our intent would be to expand the approach to additional "owned" DTCC properties.
3. Do you Decarbonize?
Yes
A. Do you use automation and energy management systems to control equipment and systems efficiently?
Yes, Schneider Ecostruxure Buildings
B. Have you implemented practices that have increased your energy efficiency?
DTCC has reduced it's enterprise energy consumption by approx 30% since the start of our journey.
C. Do you use renewables (PPAs, EACs, or onsite generation) for at least a portion of your energy needs?
We're in the process of constructing an on-site PV Solar generation system.
D. Do you source energy through renewable energy power purchase agreements (offsite) or Energy Attribute Certificates to minimize your scope 2 emissions?
Yes, Schneider Summit Services have aided DTCC in procuring renewable contracts at a portion of our facilities (approx 30%).
E. Do you use electricity from onsite renewable energy generation for reduced scope 2 emissions?
Not yet, in progress.
F. Have you implemented energy storage for improved resiliency, and to minimize peak demand and the associated carbon emissions?
Not yet, in progress.
G. Have you aggregated distributed generation assets to maximize economic value and grid impact?
Not yet, in progress.
H. Have you seen carbon reduction through improved operations focused on energy efficiency and decarbonization?
Not answeredI. Have you seen carbon reduction through modernization projects focused on energy efficiency and decarbonization?
Not answeredJ. Have you implemented practices to increase your energy efficiency?
Not answeredK. Do you have a commitment program with your suppliers to reduce Scope 3 emissions?
No but we recognize the opportunity to improve DTCC's monitoring of Scope 3 emissions.
L. Do you have a commitment program with your upstream suppliers and downstream distribution to track and reduce Scope 3 emissions?
No, but we're considering SBT alignment in collaboration with Schneider Summit Services.
M. Do you utilize digital modeling to capture embodied carbon data from materials and equipment?
No but we recognize the opportunity to improve DTCC's monitoring of embodied carbon.
N. Have you incorporated electric vehicle charging infrastructure into your operations for fleets, employees, and/or customers?
DTCC has installed EV charging stations at some facilities based on customer demand. We're actively monitoring usage to determine if additional chargers are needed.
O. Have you converted some of your fleet vehicles or available parking to electric vehicles or EV-ready?
DTCC does not have fleet vehicles.
P. Have you electrified some of your operations to reduce your scope 1 emissions and enable use of renewables to shrink your carbon footprint?
We're in the process of constructing a PV solar system.
Q. Are you purchasing low embodied carbon materials and equipment?
R. Are you using condition-based maintenance to extend your equipment life, delaying the purchase of new equipment and reducing the associated embodied carbon?
Not answeredS. Do you purchase carbon offsets to balance any residual scope 1 and 3 emissions?
Not at this time. However, we have been acquiring proposals for consideration via Schneider Summit Services team.
T. Do you reduce water usage through improved operations focused on efficiency?
DTCC has been actively upgrading all legacy plumbing fixtures to align with present day water consumption standards.
U. Do you monitor and adjust water usage based on water availability risks forecasts?
Yes and no. We are actively monitoring to develop but have not yet implemented reduction actions. We intend to be completed with automated data collection via smart water meters enterprise wide in 2024.
V. Do you have optimization programs for clean-in-place operations, water and wastewater treatment and recovery focused on efficiency?
No
W. Are circular materials procured and waste minimized in your operations?
Portions of our IT equipment program participates in circular programs offered (ie Cisco, Dell)
X. Do you have a plan to move your fossil energy-based processes to electrification?
Once the Microgrid is completed, our first line of defense during a power outage will be the battery storage. Once depleted, only then would we move to backup diesel generators if PV is not available.
Y(i). Have you deployed innovations or circularity business models? Please select all that apply:
- Deployed innovations to reduce energy consumption and carbon emissions of your operations
- Deployed innovations to replace energy sources with renewables
- Deployed innovations to reduce water usage
Y(ii). What are the results of these innovations?
